Thoughts from Canaan…

"The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God." – Genesis 17:8

“And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.”
-Matthew 6:13

Jesus concludes what we know as the Lord’s prayer with teaching us to ask for deliverance from evil.  Satan has no power over those who belong to Christ.  In fact, Jesus tell us in John 16:33 that he “[has] overcome the world.”  And since the Bible repeatedly states that Satan is the “evil one” and the “prince of this world”(John 12:31), it’s obvious that Christ has all power over Satan. However, the truly awesome aspect of all this is that not only has Christ overcome Satan, we have overcome Satan through Christ!  1 John 5:5 asks “Who is it that overcomes the world?” and then answers with “Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”  We have overcome Evil! Does this mean that life will be wonderful after we accept Christ? Of course not!  Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that “when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” We can’t expect God to not allow us to fall into any temptation situation for it says “WHEN you are tempted”.  Instead, we need to pray that God would show us the way out.  God will ALWAYS provide us with a way to escape sin.  We need to learn how to recognize when we’re tempted, and how to ask for a way out.  God WILL provide you with a way out.  That’s a promise that comes directly from His Word.
